Apple seems to be working on a major iPhone design overhaul for its 20th anniversary. There have been multiple reports of Jony Ive’s vision of an iPhone that looks like “a single sheet of glass” finally coming to fruition and now industry analyst Mark Gurman has reportedly mentioned a ‘major shake-up’ in terms of design of the iPhone model that will be released in 2027. With the current naming convention, that would be the iPhone 19 series.
As reported by 9to5Mac citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working towards a major shake-up to commemorate the 20th anniversary of iPhone. This is said to include a bold new Pro model that has “extensive use of glass.” The iPhone in question would be the iPhone 19 Pro, if the company decides to go with that name. But there is also a possibility that it would ditch the iPhone 19 nomenclature altogether, just like the iPhone X that followed the iPhone 8 series.
This alleged iPhone 19 Pro seems to be in line with designer Jony Ive’s initial vision of a mostly glass iPhone. As to how practical and durable that would be, only time will tell. Furthermore, Gurman also reportedly mentioned a foldable iPhone for the 20th anniversary and rumors about this model have also been doing the rounds. Some reports suggest that a foldable iPhone could arrive as early as 2026 with a 5.5-inch outer display and a 7.8-inch inner screen, similar to an iPad mini.
It should be noted that this piece of information comes from an industry analyst and not officially from Apple so take it with a pinch of salt.
